When Taunya and I went to Colorado and Utah last month I took some time to do a portrait shoot of my very cute niece Olivia!

I find that sometimes you get a more natural portrait if you have them doing something rather than just sitting there posing.

The other thing that is nice for kids is a toy or stuffed animal that they like to help them feel more comfortable.

This photo was great. My brother convinced Olivia that this little white rock was one of her teeth he pulled out! He was putting it back “in” for her here. Awesome variation on “Got your nose”.

The other thing I’ve learned with shooting portraits is to always be taking photographs. Some of the greatest shots are the unplanned ones or the ones in which they don’t have the perfect smile.
