Oak Creek Feeding Station

One of the last shots that I took before heading home.

The Oak Creek feeding station is just outside of Yakima, WA as you head down hwy 12. Here they feed some of the elk in the area through out the winter. There were about 600 elk at the station this afternoon. I was listening to one of the forest service rangers on why they feed the elk here and the explanation he gave was to help keep the elk out of the orchards.

Although not quite as fun as finding and photographing an animal in the open wilderness, it was still fun photographing these large animals in some what of a controlled environment. Taunya came with me and was a good sport while I spent an hour and a half taking photos switching between my 70-200mm and my 500mm lenses. You are close enough to the elk the 500mm lens was restrictive sometimes on your field of view. Such a romantic valentines activity am I right ladies?
