I realized there was a lunar eclipse when I saw my son Daniel looking at it through his telescope. By the time I got my camera stuff set up the eclipse had past full and was starting to uncover.

This is about as close as you can get to having the eclipse and the bright moon at the same time with out doing a composite image. You can just faintly see the red shadow of the part of the moon still in the earth’s shadow.

These are taken very close together. The top image is exposed for the shadow portion of the moon and the lower one is exposed for the bright side of the moon.
