My wife Taunya serves with the Young Women of the Yreka Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She asked me to take some portraits of the young women to put up on their bulletin board.

I took these photos against a black curtain with an off camera flash, through an umbrella. Miriam was a trooper as I used her as my lighting guinea pig. She was patient while I took a bunch of shots adjusting position of the flash, messing with the flash compensation and the height of the stand.

As I usually do with studio flash portraits, I shot these photographs on manual exposure. That way once I established an exposure I liked it wouldn’t change on me mid shoot. I was using my 85mm 1.8G portrait lens. I love this lens for head shot portraits, it’s so clear and gives great bokeh.
Taunya wants to put the photos up on the board in black and white. I kind of like them in color myself…..
Although the B&W look pretty good as well.
Well here are the rest of these beautiful young ladies. Let me know which you like better the color or the B&W.
I like them in color, better. The girls all wore different solid colored tops in almost every color of the rainbow. It’s a great composition.
Thanks Tiffany! I too like the color versions. Alas Taunya used the black and white for her board since they went better with her black and while theme with only Christ’s picture in color.
