My son Tyler is on the Yreka Boys Varsity Soccer team again this year. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing several of their games this year. Thursday, February 6th, was senior night because it was the last home game for this season. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to be there in time to see the presentation of the seniors.
Thursdays game was against Anderson. It was a much more relaxing game compared to Tuesdays game against Corning.
I was very pleased with how quick and accurate in the low light conditions the D800 and the 300mm f/4 obtained focus.
The other thing I am impressed with is the detail in the shots at ISO 3200. Now down-sampling the images to 1024 pixels wide sharpens them up quite a bit, but even at the pixel level the grain isn’t unacceptable.
Here is Tyler lying down on the job! No I’m just kidding he was just tripped inside the penalty box resulting in a penalty kick. It was actually the second trip of the scoring opportunity, here is the first trip.
When no whistle was blown he got to his feet and carried on to attempt a shot on goal only to be tripped again inside the box. It was a great non-call by the referee on the first trip because it allowed Tyler to get up and play the resulting advantage.
It is amazing how far the guys can throw the ball in when it leaves the pitch.
Any way I had a lot of fun taking photographs of Tyler playing soccer. Anticipating the action and being ready to capture the action is exciting.
