Cowley Family 2013

ISO 200, 34mm, f/5.6, 1/100sec

I had the awesome opportunity and pleasure to photograph the Barbara and Jack Cowley extended family this evening.  When your photographing a group of 32, inside, the lighting can be a little tricky.  Many thanks to my friend Linda who loaned me her speedlight and light stand so I could use two off camera flashes on either side of the group.  I set up the speedlights on stands about 8 feet high pointing towards the group.  One of the speedlights was shooting through a 43″ umbrella.  I would have use an umbrella for both, but only had one.

I always shoot my indoor flash photographs on manual exposure so I can control the aperture and the shutter speed.

After the large group photograph we took some time to do individual family portraits and also one with Barbara and Jack and their seven children.

I hope they love them as much as I do!  After this shoot I was thinking it may be a good investment to purchase one of those 16 foot portable backdrops.  It would just help eliminate unneeded distractions in the background.
